Best Golf Clubs For Beginners In 2021 – [Tested & Reviewed]

Best-Golf-Clubs-For-Beginners

When you choose your first set of golf clubs, you want to make sure that you have confidence in every club in your bag. Golf is a tough game and having the proper equipment that works best for you is crucial in terms of your success on the course. There are several options out there for beginners, and it can be tough to know the difference between them without some help.

Because everyone has a different budget and golf preferences, we loaded this article with some of our favorite, complete club sets and added a ton of material to help you choose the best golf clubs for beginners.

Choosing your first set of clubs can be intimidating; there are so many different characteristics and features you need to know, and throughout these pages, you will know everything you need to.

What golf club should a beginner start with?

We like to tell new golfers that when they are buying their first set, they should find a set that lets them get a feel for each type of golf club and then build their arsenal from there.

To start with, every golfer should have access to a driver, a fairway wood, a few irons (preferably in the 6-9 range,) a wedge, and a putter.

These are the baselines for most golfers and something you should know how to hit. Once you have mastered these, you will be ready to expand your clubs and get into the world of hybrids, and high loft clubs.

Types of Golf Clubs?

As mentioned above, there are several different golf clubs types, and each of them serves a purpose. It is important that you understand the differences and situations where each club should be used.

Driver

The Driver is the big dog, it is designed to be the first club you hit off the tee on long holes and will most likely be the club that takes the longest to learn how to hit in your bag.

You will never use the driver anywhere else than the tee box, but learning how to hit it effectively is extremely important because the first shot is so important. Loft angles will typically range from 8-16, but the most found loft ratings are from 9-12.

Fairway Woods

Think of the fairway wood like a smaller version of your driver, with just less distance in your shots. These are designed similarly with a slightly more loft angle to get the ball up off the ground while also having a flatter face so you can hit the ball well off the fairway or even in the rough.

These are designed for long shots, that are not coming from the tee box, although you are welcome to use them there too. You will often have a 3-wood and a 5-wood, the 3 being the one with a little more distance while the 5 will look similar but will have a bit shorter distance.

Hybrids

You will see the term hybrid thrown around all the time in golf. This is because lower irons, like 2-5 are difficult to hit and because of this, golf manufactures created clubs that are the shape of fairway woods but have the loft angles of low irons.

In golf, the iron with the lowest number is the one that will produce more distance. If the distance you are trying to hit is too close for a fairway wood, your 3, 4, or 5 hybrids would be a great call. It is common for there to be irons available for your 3, 4, and 5 options, but hybrids are the better choice for new golfers.

Irons

For all your medium-distance shots, the irons will come into play. These will usually be labeled 6-9 in beginner sets with the 6-iron producing the most distance out of the group. These can be hit from the tee box, fairway, rough, or anywhere and they will also help get your ball higher to avid trees and other hazards.

These are the clubs that we always suggest people start with, they are easy to hit and are a huge part of the game.

Wedges

For super-short shots around the green, the wedge is the best choice. Many full sets will come with both pitching and sand wedges, with the pitching wedge producing some more distance. Both will allow the ball to get very high up in the air, ensuring that when it does hit the green, it does not roll-off.

As you learn golf, you will see that there are several other wedges for even shorter shots. These are labeled by their specific degree of loft, and the higher the number, the shorter distance and higher ball flight you will get.

Putter

We all know the putter; it is the most important area of the course and being a good putter is one of the best things you can do for your game. It will only be used on the green and you should be very confident in your putter.

What is the Best Club to Use?

Simply put, there is no designated best club to use, everyone has a favorite of their own. But when it comes to learning how to swing and gaining consistency through that swing, the 7-iron is the club we suggest learning from. It is forgiving, has a decent distance, and is easy to swing. As you play more golf, you will develop your own preferences.

Factors to Look for When Buying Golf Clubs for Beginner

Club Count

You will notice that each one of our complete sets for beginners comes with a specific number of clubs included. Some will feature more than others, and some will focus on just the basics for new players to learn the game with before upgrading to a full-sized set.

When new players decide that they want to give golf a try, we suggest getting a set that features the most clubs within your price range. Most complete sets will come with a minimum of 8 clubs, but the variance will change greatly from set to set after a few standards.

You will want to ensure that you have a few specific clubs in your bag, and then you can start looking at the remaining clubs and deciding whether you would like them. For starters, every bag at the minimum should feature; a driver, irons from 6-9, a wedge, and a putter.

This is the best base you can buy to begin your journey into the game of golf. Other clubs that you will see commonly included are fairway woods and hybrid clubs. While these are great to have and we highly suggest them, they will not be a requirement to start practicing and learning the game.

Driver Loft

Everyone loves to hit the long ball and the driver is the place to find that. You will notice that each driver has a different loft rating and by knowing the difference between them, you will be able to choose the best option for you. The loft will affect the ball flight, distance, and height of the shot.

You will most likely see loft ratings from 9-12 degrees, and the lower the degree number, the lower the ball flight and the more distance you can get. The best thing you can do is test these options and find which one you prefer. A lot of higher-end drivers will offer you the ability to adjust a club’s loft, which is perfect for experimenting.

Shaft Material and Flex

As you start researching, you will often come across several references to the shaft of the golf club. These are important because they come in different materials and flex ratings, both of which need to be correct for you to get the best out of your golf set.

Shaft Material

There are 3 common shaft materials that you will see on many golf clubs. These are steel, graphite, and a hybrid/combination of both materials. Each of these is good for different situations and finding the best one for you may take some experimentation.

The most common choice is steel because for several reasons. Steel is typically more durable and cheaper, while graphite is more expensive but offers better flex options and distance help and can be great for younger and new golfers because of this. Some sets will come hybrid shafts on the driver and woods, while steel will be present on irons and putter.

If you have the means, test, and try out all these materials, we will say steel for the durability and associated costs if we had to recommend one.

Shaft Flex

The shaft flex refers to the shaft and the stiffness. This will affect the distance, accuracy, and trajectory of the shot, so it is ultra-important to find the right one for you.

There are 5 ratings for flex; Extra Stiff (X,) Stiff (S,) Regular (R,) Senior (A,) and Ladies (L.) This may seem like a lot of information, but the reality is that most beginners’ clubs will only offer a few of these options. The most common is regular and nearly all sets will offer this, except for clubs designed for ladies and juniors.

The best way to understand this is to have an idea of how hard you swing. The harder you swing, the stiffer the shaft should be. Most clubs will offer a chart that dictates the best shaft flex rating for you, but nearly all new players, excluding women and juniors, will get away with regular. If you are woman or a young player, lady’s shafts will work for both. They have a lot of flex and allow you the best ball flight.

Club Size

In a perfect world, all golfers would have the means to have their club’s custom-fitted to their exact arm length and swing style. However, this is not a reality for several people so they will need to do their best to learn about the specific club and their length. Most clubs come in a standard length, but many will offer additional length to the shafts.

Most regular players can buy typical, stock-length clubs but there are exceptions. If you are tall person (6’1” and bigger,) you will likely want to investigate these longer options. Check with the manufacturer, they will have a guide to club length based on your height.

Putters

As the old saying goes, “Drive for Show, and Putt for Dough.” Putting is the most important part of the game, and experts say that 40% of your strokes in a round can be attributed to putting. Having a putter that is high quality and that you are confident is extremely important.

All the complete sets featured in this article will have a putter included, and finding the best putter available is a good place to start. You want to find something features alignment points, has a low center of gravity, and weight in the bottom to ensure a smooth stroke throughout the putt.

There is a feature within the putter that often goes overlooked, the grip. The grip is one of the more important aspects of the club because having a comfortable and solid grip on the club ensures that your hands will remain steady throughout the process of the putt.

Most professionals use an oversized grip, meaning it is far larger in diameter than the typical club grip. The added diameter keeps hands straight and if you can find a putter with an oversized grip, you are in business.

Golf Bag

As you have noticed, all but one of the complete sets in our review guide feature a golf bag, and it is something you absolutely need to hit the course in style. We look for some things in golf bags that we suggest you do your best to find, while other features will be dependent on the type of golf you play.

There are several different types of bags and choosing the best one for you is dictated by what you wish to get out of it. The most common bag is the stand bag that features retractable legs and backpack straps for easy carrying. These are best for golfers who walk the course often.

A cart bag is a bag designed for a pushcart or a motor cart and is designed to be strapped in, offering easy access to the clubs. You can use a stand bag for this, but they are not as effective.

One thing you need to ensure is that your golf bag features tons of storage. Look, golf is hard! You will need to bring several extra balls with you on the course along with a ton of extra gear like gloves, tees, rain gear, and of course your favorite beverage.

Many bags feature dedicated apparel pockets and cooling insulated pockets that help keep drinks cold. Additionally, you will want to find a putter well within the bag. This is a dedicated slip in your bag that is padded and stays safe throughout the round. Cart bags often have better storage, but they are tougher to carry.

Are Hybrids Easier to Hit Than Fairway Woods?

Hybrid clubs have become wildly popular as a replacement for low irons like 3, 4, and 5 irons. They are far more forgiving than these low irons and because they are a hybrid between an iron and a fairway wood, they bring the best of both worlds in one singular club.

We love hybrid clubs because they have a larger face and a club head than comparable straight irons and the sweet spot is far larger too. They are easier to hit than fairway woods, but you will be sacrificing some other areas, distance.

Fairway woods will almost always outdrive the hybrid counterparts, and they should. The loft angle of a fairway wood versus a 5-hybrid is not even comparable. The most common fairway wood is a 3-wood, and these usually have 15 degrees of loft while a 3 hybrid will have 21 degrees.

You will see more distance with the fairway woods, but the hybrids 3 and greater will produce a higher ball flight.

Best Golf Clubs For Beginners Reviews

1.Callaway Men’s Strata Complete Golf Set (12 Piece)

Callaway-Mens-Strata

  • A comprehensive set of twelve clubs.
  • A putter that comes from a world-famous manufacturer.
  • The high-quality driver that will be a good fit for beginners..
  • The inclusion of a hybrid will help with long iron shots.
  • A good, sturdy bag for carrying your clubs.

Pros

We love the brand recognition factor. Callaway makes good clubs that you can count on—especially in the department of drivers and putters.
We loved the price—it’s an affordable set that gives you a quality configuration for a price that most will be able to afford.

Cons

Unfortunately, this set features only five irons, as opposed to the nine that a standard set will include.

It is hard to go wrong with a brand name like Callaway for your first set of golf clubs. This 12-piece beginner set includes everything you need to hit the course and learn the game that is loved by so many people around the world.

The Strata set, also available in a 16-club set, features an oversized driver and 3 wood that allows you to learn how to hit the long ball with a ton of forgiveness and distance. We always like to recommend forgiving clubs to beginners and these are no exception.

In addition to the long ball clubs, you will also receive a putter, irons ranging from 6 through 9, and a pitching wedge for those short shots around the green. There is a hybrid 5 iron included too, which is a wonderful feature for new players who may be intimidated by long iron shots. All these clubs feel right at home in the standing style golf bag that is included in this set.

The bag comes with several large storage pockets and an ultra-comfortable backpack strap system for easy carrying. There is a lot to love about this set, especially with a price tag south of $300.

2.Callaway Men’s Strata Ultimate Complete Golf Set

Strata-Ultimate-Complete

  • A comprehensive 18-piece set that gives you everything you need.
  • The inclusion of an awesome putter that most people will like.
  • A set configuration that is optimized for beginner golfers.
  • Flexible shafts will help to maximize the distance factor of your clubs.
  • An affordable price tag

Pros

We really like how comprehensive this package was. You get a complete set of high-quality clubs that will give you everything you could possibly need to head straight to the first tee.

Cons

We didn’t love the way that the hybrids performed, serving more like fairway woods than irons.

The Callaway Strata Ultimate is virtually identical to the last set that we looked at. In fact, it is the same package, but with the inclusion of a few extra clubs that will give you everything you need to play an entire round of golf.

The extra clubs include a four hybrid, and a sand wedge, giving you a total of twelve clubs in the bag. This is actually two clubs less than the fourteen clubs that are permitted by the rules of golf, so you can add additional sticks if you are interested.

Everything else is the same. You get the putter that I loved from the last set and overall, a full configuration of high-performing clubs. The shafts are all flexible enough to help you hit the ball long and far even with slower swing speeds.

Meanwhile, the four and five hybrids are made to be as easy to hit as possible—which is true. However, I did have a small problem with how the hybrids perform. I found that the amount of distance they produce is more in line with that of fairway wood than it is iron.

Usually, hitting the ball a long way is not a bad thing, but in this case, it creates an unnatural gap in your bag, making it harder to decide which club to use for longer shots.

3.Wilson Men’s Ultra Complete Golf Set

Wilson-Men

  • Features an affordable price that is hard to beat.
  • The set is made for beginners and includes an easy-to-hit 4 hybrid..
  • The bag is also made to be lightweight and comfortable.
  • The driver is as easy to hit as possible.

Pros

We loved how affordable this easy-to-hit, beginner-friendly set is. If you are shopping on a budget, you’ll find lots to love about this set.

Cons

The steel shafts of the iron are very good, but there is no indication on flex rating or manufacturer of them in case of a defect.

Wilson was a pioneer in developing beginners’ complete golf club sets that are affordable and high-quality. The Ultra package comes with all the clubs you need to learn how to handle all aspects of your golf game.

The driver and fairway wood will feature a graphite shaft for extra forgiveness while the remaining clubs have steel for durability. You will get headcovers for your driver, wood, and hybrid club, which is a nice touch here from Wilson.

In addition to the oversized clubs, you will also receive a stand golf bag that works great for nearly everyone. Some complete sets do not focus on providing a quality bag, but Wilson ensured that the bag included with this setup offers several large storage pockets and a strap system that makes carrying the bag a breeze.

We love the backpack straps and found that this bag will work well with carts and walking the course.

4.RAM Golf EZ3 Men’s Golf Club Set with Stand Bag

  • There are 2 headcovers included, one for the driver and the other for the fairway wood.
  • The shaft material for the driver and 3 wood is graphite while the remaining irons and hybrid are steel. Both feature a regular flex rating.

My first wedge growing up was a RAM brand and ever since then, I have had an appreciation for a company that strives to bring affordable golf products to players of all ages and skill levels. The RAMEZ3 men’s set is among the most affordable on our list, while still giving golfers the chance to learn how to play with decent clubs and it comes with a nice bag as well.

In total, you will receive 8 clubs and a mallet putter with this set. The driver comes with a 10.5-degree loft angle, is loaded with 460cc for maximum power and features an oversized clubhead for easy and forgiving shots. All clubs come with a regular stiffness rating and the shaft material is graphite for the driver and fairway wood, and steel for all other clubs.

The RAM set also features a standing bag with retractable bags and several pockets throughout for storage and comfortable backpack straps that make it easy to carry.

Pros

  • We were impressed with the forgiveness of the driver and the 3-wood, both are very easy to hit.
  • The 21-degree hybrid is a great addition to this bag, it replaces the need for intimidating long irons and is much easier to hit.
  • You get phenomenal value out of the RAM set. It has an affordable price tag and the performance is much higher than anticipated.
  • A standing bag is included with this beginner set that does a fine job of sorting your clubs and features backpack straps for easy carrying.

5.Aspire Junior Plus Complete Golf Set for Kids

Aspire-Junior-Plus-Complete-Golf-Club-Set

  • This set is specifically designed for kids aged 5-6, but there are other options for all age ranges available from Aspire.
  • You will have several colors to choose from; kids are able to choose their favorite color.
  • All clubs feature graphite shafts, which is the best material for younger players.
  • Each set will include a driver, fairway wood, iron, putter, and a golf bag.

As the old saying goes, “do it for the kids.” The Aspire Junior set is loaded with kid-friendly features and several color options that kids will love being able to choose from. Kids will receive a stand bag with quality backpack straps, a driver, fairway wood, iron, and putter that all feature graphite shafts for additional flex so the kids can launch the ball.

Both boys and girls can use this set and it is among one of the better kid’s sets we have seen.

When it comes to sizing, you can find clubs that range for kids aged 4-12, but be careful when choosing the size, it can be slightly confusing if you do not read the size chart for the clubs. Often, kids and junior sets are a bit gimmicky and do not provide the user with quality clubs that they can learn on.

This is not the case here as the Aspire clubs look and feel like adult-sized clubs and with the low price tag, you cannot go wrong with this option.

Pros

  • This is the perfect set for young people, both boys, and girls, to learn golf.
  • We were very impressed with the color options and all the extra accessories this set includes to make kids fall in love with their clubs.
  • It was cool to see that these clubs were not gimmicky; they are legit golf clubs of great quality.
  • The golf bag is great. It features standing legs, backpack straps, and is light enough for all kids to carry themselves.

Cons

  • The sizing is not entirely clear with these clubs; more specific sizes would be nice.

6.Tour Edge HL-J Junior Complete Golf Set

Tour-Edge-HL-J-Junior-Complete-Golf-Set

  • The Tour Edge complete set is designed for junior players and comes in three different age breaks encapsulating ages 3-12.
  • All the clubs feature a wider sole and an oversized head to ensure easy ball striking.
  • It is offered in both left and right-handed models; both include a stand bag, putter, driver, fairway wood, and two irons.
  • These are among the lightest clubs available for juniors; they are easy swinging and still have a lot of distance.

Another excellent option for juniors and kids is the Tour Edge HL-J series complete set. It comes with everything you need to have your favorite junior fall in love with the game of golf. You will have the option of choosing between left- and right-handed clubs, and each set will come with a driver, fairway wood, 2 irons, and two irons—more than enough for the kids to learn how to play the game of golf.

One thing that impressed us greatly was the driver included with this set. It is a very powerful driver and something that all kids would have a ton of fun learning to hit and watching the ball soar.

This is especially a good option for younger kids who may not have the strength for big clubs because these are a light as a feather, making them simple to swing, even for the newest golfers. If you are looking for a gift for your favorite young golf fan, the features and price tag here are phenomenal.

Pros

  • We are very impressed with the putter included with this set, it aligns well and is a great weight for maintaining a consistent stroke.
  • The driver that is included boasts 350cc’s of power, much more than most junior sets.
  • There are a ton of storage pockets for a junior bag, and the backpack straps are awesome for young people.
  • The size of the irons is amazing for new golfers. They have a low center of gravity and are easy to hit.

Cons

  • There are some concerns on the durable of the driver and fairway wood.

7.Pinemeadow PRE Men’s 16-Piece Complete Golf Set

Pinemeadow-PRE

  • An affordable price on a comprehensive set.
  • A good utter designed for beginner golfers.
  • A bag that is made to be as comfortable to carry as possible. .
  • An easy-to-hit driver that will suit newer swings.

Pros

We really liked how much you get for your money. The affordable price tag buys you a nearly complete set of clubs, putting you in the position to play a full round without encountering frustrating gaps.

Cons

Unfortunately, the technology at work in these Pinemeadow clubs is not as sophisticated as that of other, name-brand developers.

If you want to spend a little bit but get a lot, the Pinemeadow is definitely the way to go here. Though not a name brand manufacturer, they have put together a good reliable set of clubs that will allow you to hit any shot from tee to green.

I was particularly drawn to the putter which features a large mallet-sized head that is designed to help amateurs line up their putts and produce a steady, easily replicated stroke time after time.

I was also glad to see the inclusion of at least one hybrid. Rather than saddling you with a traditional three-iron, you get an easy-to-hit rescue club that will suit people that don’t have much experience.

It was, however, pretty clear that the tech at work in these clubs isn’t quite as sophisticated as that of bigger manufacturers. You feel it mostly in the mishits. Bigger manufacturers have really nailed clubface technology, to the point where it barely matters where you strike the ball on beginner clubs.

Such is not the case with this set. If you’re not striping it consistently, you will notice a very erratic shot pattern. It’s still a good package for beginner golfers on a budget, but you may struggle a little bit more than you would with other clubs. On the plus side, it gives you the incentive to stripe it right in the middle of the clubface!

8. Callaway Women’s Strata Ultimate Complete Golf Set

Callaway-Women

  • Shafts specifically designed for women golfers.
  • High-end Callaway technology that dwarves that of off-brand models.
  • A great putter that will be good for beginner players.
  • Hybrids that eliminate hard to hit long irons.

Pros

We really liked the easy-to-hit long iron configuration, as well as the overall quality of the technology that is at work in the woods.

Cons

We weren’t so crazy about the consistency of the hybrids.

Now it’s the ladies turn to enjoy some quality equipment. If you read my other Strata reviews, you pretty much know what you are getting here. If not, let’s refresh on the features.

The Strata complete set features two hybrids that are taking the place of the four and five irons. These clubs will make the set much easier to use for beginner golfers.

You then get the standard six, seven, eight, nine iron, as well as a pitching and sand wedge. The set also comes with a driver, three wood, and a quality putter.

Basically, it features everything you could want from a set, including the technology you just don’t find from the off-brand sets. Titanium heads on the woods produce lots of distance, and high-end shafts that produce the perfect weight/flex balance that most women golfers will benefit from.

Finally, the bag was lightweight and ergonomic, made to be easy to carry even during long eighteen-hole rounds. All great stuff for buyers who are looking for a quality set of clubs to get started in the world of golf.

The only downside is the same complaint I noticed on the men’s Stata set. The hybrids produce distances more similar to a high fairway wood than a long iron. This certainly isn’t a deal-breaking con, but it does make distance control a little bit challenging.

The set is also a little bit pricey, which is something budget buyers will want to be mindful of.

9.Confidence Golf Power V3 Mens Golf Clubs Set & Stand Bag

Confidence-Golf-Power

  • An extremely affordable set of clubs for buyers that need a good deal.
  • A comfortable, easy-to-haul bag.
  • Large sweet spots on every club in the entire bag.
  • The inclusion of a hybrid.

Pros

I really liked how affordable and forgiving this set is. It’s perfect for buyers that are on the fence about whether or not golf will turn into a serious hobby or not.

Cons

Unfortunately, this is a bare boneset, that doesn’t include any long irons or fairway woods at all.

I should put it right out on the front street that this isn’t a name-brand manufacturer. I don’t usually love that in the world of golf clubs but the price does incentivize buyers to overlook the obscurity of the company in order to get a good deal.

For what it’s worth, the clubs perform quite well given their price. Oversized club faces and a deep cavity back design ensure that you will get the best results possible even out of a not-so-good swing.

It was also nice to see that they opted for a five hybrid instead of the usual five iron. This inclusion will make the set very manageable for people who are truly taking their first wings.
Unfortunately, you don’t get much in the way of long irons. No three, or four irons to help you out when you are a long ways away from the hole. As a result, playing a full round at a traditional par 72 course will be virtually impossible with this set.

You can fill the bag out by purchasing additional hybrids, fairway woods, etc, but for the most part, it will do best at the driving range, or at a pitch and putt par three courses. Just be aware of the fact that this is a set that won’t serve most players well for longer than their first season.

Also, bear in mind that you aren’t getting critical wedges with this set either. It does come with a pitching wedge, but you can’t do very much with that club around the green, and especially not in a sand bunker.

10. Wilson Men’s Ultra Complete Package Golf Set, Standard (Prior-Generation)

Wilson-Men-Ultra-Complete

  • A full set of clubs that give you (almost) everything you could possibly need.
  • A very comfortable bag that will be easy to use even when you’re walking.
  • A solid hybrid putter that provides players the best of both worlds..
  • Hybrids eliminate the need to worry about hard-to-hit long irons.

Pros

We really liked the beginner-friendly configuration featuring hybrids, a solid putter for beginners, and an overall comprehensive package that gives you nearly everything you could need to play a successful round of golf.

Cons

The shaft and grip components of these clubs are on the cheaper side. The grips will likely need to be replaced at the close of the season (many serious players do this no matter what anyway), and the shafts simply might not be quite as consistent as many appreciate.

The Wilson set we have here is much like the last that we looked at, with every small detail optimized for beginner players. This is witnessed mostly in the clubfaces. The irons are oversized with a big emphasis on their sizable sweet spot.

The driver and woods are similarly crafted, a 460cc head on the big dog helping beginners get precious yards off their tee shots.

I also really loved the putter. It’s in the hybrid style, here meaning that it combines the look of a traditional putter with the weighting and stability of a mallet. In this sense, you get the best of both worlds—a forgiving design as well as an aesthetic that will be pleasing to the eye.
Of course, there is also the regular sort of hybrids replacing the long irons.

The only thing that made me feel a little bit iffy about the clubs was the grips and shafts. Granted, these are component s of the club that beginners don’t usually worry so much about but they are on the cheaper side in this case.

The grips are just uncomfortable, and cheap, feeling as though they might peel or crack in a short time. The shafts, meanwhile, demonstrate an inconsistent flex point, which will mostly impact your trajectory. You’ll see some shots unexpectedly balloon up, which may prevent you from finding the green.

11. Precise M3 Men’s Complete Golf Clubs Package Set

Precise-M3

  • An affordable price that keeps it competitive with our budget picks.
  • A comfortable lightweight bag that is easy to carry.
  • Oversized sweet spots that make the clubs as user-friendly as possible.
  • A hybrid design on the putter makes it easy to align putts.

Pros

I was most partial to the affordable price tag on all and all very decent sets of clubs.

Cons

Unfortunately, the set leaves out several important clubs which will make it very hard to use on the course.

Second, to last, we look at the Precise set. The basic bones of the set here are pretty good. I’m seeing most of the important staples of the best beginner golf set. The oversized club faces are what really make the clubs work well for beginner players.

It’s your standard entry-level design theme-large sweet spots a deep cavity, and a generous offset—all factors that help you get the ball up in the air.

The one problem I have with the design theme is that it looks more like a beginner set from fifteen years ago than one from today. That’s not to say that the technical construction is outdated—more the configuration.

The concept is more focused on sweet spots than on other innovations that have cropped up in the last years. There is one hybrid, but also two long irons to contend with.

There also aren’t any wedges which meant that you will need to make several additional purchases to get the most out of this set.

12.Wilson Men’s Profile XD Complete Golf Set With Bag

Wilson-Men-Profile

  • Everything you need is included in the set including a sand wedge.
  • Great putter for players of every skill level.
  • Comfortable bag for players that like to walk.
  • Generous sweet spots throughout the bag.

Pros

I really loved how comprehensive this set is. It even features a sand wedge, so you don’t technically need to buy anything extra at all.

Cons

This set is a little bit pricier than some of the other options on our list.

We end things on a truly high note. The Wilson Profile XD complete is a total package option that includes everything from the driver all the way down to the sand wedge.

The golf clubs feature oversized faces and large sweet spots that will make them easy for beginners to use. It also comes with a hybrid subbing out for the four iron, a fairway wood, and a great putter that makes good use of a truly classic design.

It’s in the fashion of the standard blade style, which has been perhaps the most cherished design concept in circulation since the nineties.

The clubs even feature an emphasis on aerodynamics, a factor that you don’t often see in beginner sets. The sleek design at work all throughout the bag is made to increase swing speeds, giving you a little bit more distance with each swing.

Buyers on a budget will want to be mindful of the fact that this is costlier than many of the other options on our list today. Granted, you also get a little bit more than many of the other sets featured. Still, the general sticker price might be intimidating for some buyers.

The Proper Way to Hold a Golf Club

This is an important part of your golf swing, arguably the most important. The golden rule is to keep a loose grip and not to strangle the club. Place the club on the floor in front of you horizontally and place the bottom hand in the palm of your hand near where it meets your fingers. Wrap all your fingers, excluding the thumb around the grip comfortably. The thumb should then run parallel with the shaft of the club, this adds stability to the grip.

Your other hand should then follow suit and be placed right above the bottom hand. The 4 fingers and the thumb should do the same thing, and the top hand should be placed directly above the bottom hand with the thumbs overlapping and supporting each other. Both hands should work in unison and the thumbs should both be parallel with the grip of the club.

How to Swing a Golf Club for Beginners

Easy does it, if there is nothing else you remember, just remember that easy and smooth swings are key to this sport. When you line up on the ball, it should be located between your stance and the club should be aligned squarely with the ball. As you bring the club back, make sure your eyes are staring directly at the ball the entire time, well after you contact the ball.

As you bring the club back, your inner arm should be straight and not bent throughout the process of the backswing all the way through the follow-through. You also want to ensure that you are backswing is slow and smooth. When you get to the top, now you need to bring your arms and hips into the swing and contact the ball, while keeping your head down the entire time.

Your front shoulder and hips should be working in unison to drive through the ball and into your follow-through. It will take practice to perfect; we suggest watching videos on YouTube and other places to get some more visual aids.

Frequently Asked Question and Answered

Should women consider specific golf clubs?

Yes, they should. Most companies will develop specific clubs for women that feature more flexible shafts and are lighter so they can produce more clubhead speed and greater distances. These clubs will also have several shaft length options to choose from as well.

Do I need to have custom-fitted clubs?

While it is great to have this option, by no means is it required that you have clubs fitted exactly for you. They are very expensive for starters, and when you are just learning the game of golf, we do not suggest spending all that money on clubs and equipment. Once you have decided that golf is for you, then you should investigate this.

How many clubs are in a golf set?

The answer to this will vary from set to set but is very common that sets will come with anywhere from 9-11 clubs and a putter. This is more than enough to begin learning and playing golf, and as you progress through learning how to play, you can always add more options to your golf bag.
